Roma should sign Iker Casillas from Real Madrid, says ex-keeper coach

Roma should sign Real Madrid shot-stopper Iker Casillas, according to a former goalkeeping coach of both clubs.

The future of long-serving Madrid captain Casillas, 34, looks uncertain, given his uneasy relationship with fans at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, and Los Blancos' apparent interest in signing shot-stopper David De Gea, 24, from Manchester United.

While Casillas has publicly maintained his wish to stay at the Bernabeu and compete with De Gea for a starting place, speculation has suggested that he would move on should the Liga giants pay up the remaining two years of his lucrative contract.

Roma have emerged as a potential destination, with Casillas' agent Carlo Cutropia saying the Serie A side was an option, before admitting that no official contact had taken place.

Amid this situation, Franco Tancredi, who has worked under Fabio Capello at both Madrid and Roma in the past, has told Todo Mercado Web, as reported by AS, that he believes the experienced Spain captain would be a good signing for the Stadio Olimpico outfit.

"Casillas should be signed," former Roma goalkeeper Tancredi said. "He makes the difference. I had the chance to coach him for a year at Real Madrid and it would make me happy to see him at Roma.

"With [Gianluigi] Buffon and [Petr] Cech he has been among the best in the world, has done extraordinary things. He is a great kid, with good manners and a seriousness outside the norm. A person from another age."
