Injured Luis Suarez to join up with Uruguay squad ahead of qualifiers

Luis Suarez has Barcelona's permission to join up with the Uruguay national team to continue his recovery from injury.

Suarez was ruled out for a month after suffering a knee injury in Barcelona's Spanish Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid last week.

But Barcelona said in a statement that he is improving, raising hopes that the striker could yet recover in time to face Argentina in a World Cup qualifier on Thursday.

"Luis Suarez is recovering well from the injury to his right knee sustained in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup," Barca said. "FC Barcelona's medical staff and the Uruguayan Football Association have agreed on the striker joining up with his national team as he continues his rehabilitation."

Suarez was not named to the original 25-man squad that will host Argentina before travelling to Paraguay on Sept. 5.

Uruguay are currently third in the CONMEBOL table, level on points with Chile and one ahead of Argentina, who are fifth and in the intercontinental playoff spot.
