Liverpool boss Klopp 'not interested' in Daniel Sturridge exit talk

LIVERPOOL -- Jurgen Klopp has denied suggestions that Daniel Sturridge is unhappy with handling of his injuries by the Liverpool medical staff and could leave the club.

It had been reported in some sections of the press that Sturridge was ready to make a fresh start at a new club, after becoming fed-up at fitness training on his own, with no date set for a return to first-team action.

Klopp has said repeatedly that Sturridge must complete an unbroken sequence of those sessions before being allowed to take part in full training, or be considered for selection.

In the player's ongoing absence -- he has not played since the Premier League loss to Newcastle on Dec. 6 -- criticism has grown of both the player himself and the club.

Klopp confirmed at a news conference on Friday that Sturridge would not be available to play a part in Saturday's league game at home to Sunderland.

However, the England forward returned to team training on Wednesday, so Klopp said that there was "no story" to tell about Sturridge's future.

Klopp said: "Why should I think about that? Who has suggested that? If somebody asks me something about this, I'm not interested in 'suggestions' -- [there's] nothing to say.

"Daniel's back in training for two days, it's great -- so everything looks good at the moment."

He added that Sturridge coming through training -- along with Philippe Coutinho (absent since Jan. 5) and Divock Origi (injured since Boxing Day) -- had provided a lift for the club.

"What's good for us is good for him," Klopp said. "Yesterday with Phil [Coutinho] and Divock [Origi], if you see these three players you know what you've missed. There's absolutely nothing to say about it.

"What each player needs is consistent training -- that's normal. We tried everything we could to bring him back to training and now we are in a [position] where we hope we can get the benefit."
