Mexico's Jesus 'Tecatito' Corona out of U.S. qualifier and Confederations Cup

MEXICO CITY -- Porto winger Jesus "Tecatito" Corona is out of Sunday's World Cup qualifier against the United States and will also miss the Confederations Cup.

Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio confirmed Corona's absence at the start of Saturday's pregame news conference, stating that Corona left camp because of a family issue and will not return for the Confederations Cup.

Corona has been an crucial player for the Mexico national team under Osorio, and his omission is a significant blow to El Tri.

"I want to reiterate that Jesus [Corona] is a very important player for us," Osorio said. "We respect the decision and the agreement was between all of us. We want him to be OK personally."

There was more bad news for El Tri, with Osorio confirming that a medical report has ruled centre-back Nestor Araujo out of the U.S. game.

He'll join Rafa Marquez, Andres Guardado and Miguel Layun on the sideline after their absence was confirmed on Friday.

On the positive side, Carlos Salcedo is available. Osorio had said after Mexico's 3-0 win over Honduras on Thursday that defender Salcedo would struggle to make Sunday's game.
