Carlos Salcedo out for U.S. match, will travel to Russia for Confed Cup

MEXICO CITY - Juan Carlos Osorio confirmed that Mexico defender Carlos Salcedo will not be involved in the team's match against the United States following the team's 3-0 win over Honduras on Thursday.

The Fiorentina right-back was taken off with an injury in the 54th minute of the World Cup qualifier, but the positive news for Mexico is that it shouldn't keep him from traveling to Russia for the Confederations Cup.

"Carlos [Salcedo] suffered two hits," said Osorio in the postgame press conference. "He won't be ready for Sunday, but he will travel to the Confederations Cup."

Aside from Salcedo, Osorio should have a full squad for Sunday's Hexagonal game against the Stars and Stripes, with no El Tri player picking up a yellow card against Honduras.

Midfielder Andres Guardado and center-back Nestor Araujo were left off the match-day squad with niggling injuries, although both are expected to be fit for Sunday's match, according to Osorio.

Rafa Marquez also didn't appear on the team-sheet, although he is in full training and an option for Sunday, despite only one appearance for club or country since March 25.

Osorio also confirmed that Mexico Under-20 defenders Alan Mayorga (Chivas) and Edson Alvarez (Club America) will be invited to travel to Russia with the Confederations Cup squad in order to gain experience.
