Mexico Football Federation general secretary Guillermo Cantu has given national team coach Juan Carlos Osorio the federation's backing for the upcoming CONCACAF World Cup qualifying matches in September.
Osorio has not spoken since Mexico failed to advance past the group stage in Rio to defend their 2012 Olympic gold medal.
Cantu classified Mexico's dismal performance in Brazil as "a failure" but told reporters at the airport in Brasilia that there are no plans to sack Osorio.
"He is firm in his determination and dedicated," Cantu said of Osorio. "I want to clarify immediately that he will remain in charge of the team to avoid any speculation."
Mexico's failure to defend Olympic gold comes at the heels of an embarrassing Copa America Centenario quarterfinal 7-0 loss to Chile earlier this summer.
El Tri were eliminated in the group stage by Korea Republic, 1-0, and were playing without star striker Oribe Peralta and promising youngster Rodolfo Pizarro after the pair picked up injuries.
Mexico face El Salvador on Sept. 2 and Honduras four days later in matches that count toward CONCACAF hexagonal qualification positioning.
The top two teams in each of the three fourth-round groups advance to the CONCACAF hex, with the six teams competing in a 10-game round-robin from November 2016 to October 2017.
Mexico is assured of first place in Group A from the fourth round, but no other hex position has been solidified with two match dates left to play in September.
Osorio is the eighth manager to lead the Mexico national team since the 2010 World Cup.
