Jurgen Klopp has challenged the youngsters in his Liverpool squad to become regular first-team players for the club.
Last season saw Klopp hand senior debuts to academy prospects Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Woodburn, Harry Wilson and Ovie Ejaria, while 17-year-old striker Rhian Brewster was part of the Liverpool manager's setup.
However, with Liverpool expected to be busy in the summer transfer market ahead of a potential Champions League run next season, Klopp says his young players must become dependable options for him.
"The boys did really well but they all have to improve," he is quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo. "They have to go from being really skilled kids to being players that you have to use. That's the next step.
"Look at Rhian Brewster, everyone knows about his talent. It's fantastic. Ben is a step ahead and someone like Trent is already another step ahead. It's all cool and good for the future."
Towards the end of the 2016-17 campaign, Alexander-Arnold was a backup option to Nathaniel Clyne for the right-back spot, while Woodburn, who became the club's youngest-ever goal scorer in November, made nine appearances in all competitions last season.
