          Liverpool forward Ben Woodburn becomes Liverpool's youngest scorer

          Liverpool striker Ben Woodburn has become the youngest player to score for the club at 17 years and 45 days.

          Woodburn netted against Leeds in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night to overcome Michael Owen, who bagged a goal on his Premier League debut against Wimbledon at the age of 17 and 143 days in May 1997.

          The 17-year-old fired home in the 80th minute at Anfield after he came on midway through the second half, replacing Kevin Stewart who went off injured.

          "My first job is to make these players be their best. I am really happy for Ben," manager Jurgen Klopp told Sky Sports. "We all know how young he is, but it doesn't look like this in training sessions. It's a nice story and all the boys are really happy for him. everybody is smiling in the dressing room."

          Captain Lucas Leiva added: "He is a brilliant young player. He did very well. He just needs to keep learning, keep improving. A goal will give him confidence to keep learning, to keep going."

          Former Liverpool defender and TV pundit Jamie Carragher said: "I always think of Michael, Robbie Fowler, they had an impact early on. Whatever he does in his career, he will never forget that moment.

          "We always want young players to get a chance. You can't expect 10-12 appearances. You might get one or two and you have to take your chance."

          The Welsh youth international has enjoyed a rapid rise in recent months. He burst onto the scene for the first team in preseason before he was promoted to Michael Beale's under-23s squad at the start of the campaign.

          It was announced earlier this month that Woodburn had signed his first professional contract at Liverpool, putting pen to paper on a three-year deal -- the maximum length for a player of his age.
