John Terry's red card '100% correct' says former referee Dermot Gallagher

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher believes the match officials were right to send off Chelsea skipper John Terry in Sunday's Premier League game at West Bromwich Albion.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho declined to offer too many observations on Terry's dismissal after his clash with West Brom striker Salomon Rondon, but Gallagher told Sky Sports that referee Mark Clattenburg and his officials made the right call.

"It's a foul. It's a great spot from the referee and when you see it again, [Terry] actually grabs hold of his arm and lets it go just before they get into the penalty area," Gallagher said.

"It is also good team work because it is not a penalty.

"So between them, they've got it all right. Rondon's arm is being held. It's just outside the penalty area and it's a foul, there's no doubt about it. So between the officials, they have got it 100 percent correct."

Mourinho hinted after the game that he would not encourage Chelsea to launch an appeal against the red card, meaning Terry will be suspended for next weekend's Premier League game against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.

"I think we should [appeal], but normally it's a waste of time," Mourinho stated. "It's a ball into the space behind the full-back, the full-back is pressing high, the striker makes the movement and then Mr Clattenburg decides it's a red card."
