Bayern Munich 'miles away' from their best - Philipp Lahm

Philipp Lahm has said Bayern Munich have a lot of work ahead after the German champions dropped their first Bundesliga points of the season.

After five successive Bundesliga wins, Bayern stumbled to a 1-1 home draw against Cologne at the weekend, despite taking the lead five minutes before half-time through Joshua Kimmich's fifth goal in six games for the club.

"It tells us we have a lot of work ahead of us," Lahm told kicker. "Both in attack and defensively, we have a lot to sort out on how we can perform better. At the moment, we are miles away from where we want to be."

Lahm, 32, has won the Bundesliga seven times and DFB Pokal six with the Bavarians. Bayern's captain is in his penultimate season at the club, having already retired from international football at the age of 30 as Germany's World Cup-winning skipper.

Bayern's longest-serving player added: "We have a new trainer and coaching staff and our playing style has changed. It will take time to attune ourselves to the new processes. We have to improve for the important games coming up after the international break."

Meanwhile, after picking up a rib injury on his first start since March, Netherlands skipper Arjen Robben is staying in Munich and will not be meeting up with his national side for the time being.

Robben, 32, was taken off at half-time at the weekend by Carlo Ancelotti, who described the injury as "nothing serious."

Although Robben, who has won 88 caps for his country, has to rest his injury, he may meet up with Danny Blind's side in the coming days if his condition allows. Netherlands host Belarus and France in World Cup qualifiers.

Bayern's record signing Javi Martinez will also miss out on Spain's qualifiers. Martinez, 28, played a full 90 minutes against Cologne, but picked up an adductor injury and has been ruled out of La Roja's games against Italy and Albania.
