Manuel Neuer mistake not to blame for Bayern Munich loss - Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola refused to blame goalkeeper Manuel Neuer for his mistake in Bayern Munich's 2-0 loss against Borussia Monchengladbach on Sunday.

Neuer was at fault for Raffael Araujo's opening goal when the ball slipped through his fingers in the 30th minute, as Monchengladbach claimed a shock win at the Allianz Arena.

Speaking after the game, Bayern coach Guardiola said: "We didn't lose due to Manu but because we had problems in attack."

Germany international Neuer accepted he should have parried the ball rather than try and catch it.

He said: "It was the first ball that came my way. I tried to secure it, but should have played for safety."

Guardiola felt his side struggled in the absence of the injured Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, the latter of whom was replaced in the first half and will now be sidelined for a number of weeks.

He said: "We started well and stopped them getting at us on the break. We tried everything but without Franck and Arjen it was tough. In the second half we played with too much heart and not enough head.

"It's the Bundesliga and people think it's always easy, but I know how difficult it is. We'll analyse the game and after the international break we'll get back to winning ways."

The Bundesliga loss was Bayern's first at home in over 11 months, although the club hold a 10-point lead over Wolfsburg at the top of the table.

Meanwhile, Monchengladbach have now collected 20 points and more than Bayern in the Ruckrunde -- the second half of the Bundesliga season.

They also have opened an eight-point gap on Schalke, who are placed in the first Europa League qualification spot.

"Eight points are nice cushion, but we also have to play eight more games. A lot can happen," right-back Tony Jantschke said.

However, in-form winger Patrick Herrmann was delighted over the victory at the Allianz Arena.

"A win like today has to be a huge confidence boost. You don't win 2-0 at Bayern every day. This is a big day for us," he added.
