Arsenal's Francis Coquelin faces fitness test for Burnley, Giroud still out

LONDON -- Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has been ruled out of Sunday's Premier League game at Burnley, but midfielder Francis Coquelin has a small chance of returning ahead of schedule after his knee injury proved less serious than expected.

Giroud has been struggling with a toe injury since Arsenal's 1-1 Champions League draw at Paris Saint-Germain two weeks ago, while Coquelin injured his knee in the 3-0 victory over Chelsea last Saturday.

Coquelin was initially ruled out for three weeks but Arsene Wenger said on Friday he will have a fitness test to see if he can be involved this weekend.

"Giroud will be out, he will not come back [for Burnley]. Coquelin is looking much better than expected. He will have a test today but I think he will be short," Wenger said at a news conference. "His medial knee ligament was not damaged as we thought. He's keen to get started, but we have to be cautious."

Wenger also confirmed that Aaron Ramsey should be available after the international break, having been ruled out of Wales' upcoming World Cup qualifiers with a hamstring injury he suffered on the opening day of the season.

Arsenal travel to Burnley looking for a fifth straight Premier League victory, while also trying to round off a perfect week to mark Wenger's 20th anniversary at the club. They followed up the victory over Chelsea with a convincing 2-0 Champions League win over Basel.

"I believe that we have to go into the game with the same commitment, the same focus as we had in recent games," Wenger said. "[Burnley] are very well organised defensively, they don't concede goals at home. They are very dangerous on set pieces as well and very dangerous on the counterattack. So we have to prepare well."
