Bosso win; Ngezi, FC Platinum held

Rising star Prince Dube marked his call-up to the Zimbabwe senior team with a splendid display on Sunday, to fire Highlanders to a comfortable 2-0 win over visiting Triangle in the Zimbabwe Premier League.

The 20-year-old needed just nine minutes to open the scoring, his fifth goal of the campaign, after controlling a pass from Rahman Kutsanzira and then sprinting past his marker to unleash a delightful strike. Bosso could have doubled the lead moments later after Dube nicely set up Rodrick Mutuma, only for the former Dynamos man to fluff his lines.

Mutuma was then thwarted by Triangle goalkeeper Ronald Mudimu, who leapt up to parry the striker's lobbed effort to safety as Bosso continued to press.

A second goal duly arrived moments before the break, and it was Mutuma who finally put his name on the score sheet with a well-placed header off a Bukhosi Ncube cross.

The win lifted Highlanders into fifth-place with 20 points, six behind log leaders Ngezi Platinum, whose five-match winning streak was brought to a grinding halt after a goalless draw at home to Chapungu.

Ngezi coach Tonderai Ndiraya was left fuming with frustration after his side nearly paid for a glut of missed opportunities in the first-half, with the visitors threatening to deliver a killer punch late on.

"It wasn't impressive by our standards although we did enough to win the game," Ndiraya told the media after the match. "Look, we had gone for five matches on a winning streak and dropping two points at home is quite disappointing."

Meanwhile, FC Platinum endured another frustrating afternoon as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Shabanie Mine in the Zvishavane derby.

The impressive Talent Chawapiwa put Platinum ahead after just three minutes, firing home from inside the box off a Hillary Bakacheza lay-off.

Shabanie did not take long to respond, with Wellington Taderera controlling a perfectly weighted pass from Dylan Nyandoro to slam past Platinum goal-minder Petros Mhari 12 minutes later.

Plenty of action was to follow but neither side could find the winner, much to the disappointment of those FC Platinum fans who were hoping for a more inspiring start to the campaign, given their five draws in 10 matches.
