Former Hwange forward Gift Mbweti scored his first league goal of the season as FC Platinum beat Yadah FC 2-0 to climb to the top of standings in the Zimbabwe Premier League.

Mbweti, who bagged nine goals in his breakthrough season with Hwange last term, calmed the nerves for the home side with a 10th minute strike before midfielder Gerald Takwara added a second just before the break.

The score-line was however a little unjust on Yadah, who fought bravely and created some decent openings only to be let down by poor finishing.

The top-flight newcomers have now lost four in a row after starting the season brightly and even topping the log at one stage.

While Yadah continued to drift towards the wrong end of the log table, a second consecutive win has thrust Platinum back in the limelight as they look to put behind a frustrating run of four draws in five matches.

The unbeaten Zvishavane-based miners' reign at the top could however last just 24 hours if ZPC Kariba, who led the standings going into the weekend, win against Ngezi Platinum in the headline fixture of the Sunday programme.

In Bulawayo, emerging star Prince Dube rose from the bench to score his fourth of the campaign in Highlanders come-from-behind 2-1 win over Bantu Rovers.

The youthful Rovers had taken the lead on seven minutes as Bosso defender Peter Muduhwa converted an Obriel Chirinda cross past his own goalkeeper.

Highlanders were soon on level terms however through King Nadolo, who bundled the ball past Bantu goalkeeper Notice Dube four minutes later.

Erol Akbay will feel vindicated after making five changes to the team following Wednesday goalless draw away to Harare City. In another Saturday encounter, Tinei Chitora scored on 14 minutes as Chapungu held on to beat Harare City 1-0 for their first win of the season.

The move enabled Chapungu to move off the foot of the table into third-bottom with seven points from nine matches.
