Round-up: Zimbabwe Premier League

Zimbabwean football was once again plunged into chaos on Sunday as violence erupted at the Barbourfields Stadium, forcing the abandonment of the mammoth league showdown between bitter rivals Dynamos and Highlanders.

Dynamos' forward Christian Entouba had just cancelled out Rahman Kutsanzira 24th minute opener moments before half-time when matters spun out of hand.

Irate Highlanders supporters started pelting the far side assistant referee after Entouba's leveller, with the Cameroonian import having looked slightly offside when he received the ball deep inside the Highlanders box.

Attempts to pacify the restless Bosso crowd proved fruitless and the match officials eventually decided to abandon the tie following a break which stretched for nearly an hour.

It was a messy end to an otherwise entertaining afternoon, and Highlanders supporters may have otherwise done their team some injustice as they looked the more dominant side for much of the opening half.

The visitors' goalkeeper Tonderai Mateyaunga had to be at his best to keep out a Simon Munawa pile-drive as early as the third minute, and Highlanders continued to be the more dangerous side with Dynamos discard Rodrick Mutuma looking particularly inspired.

Dynamos had their moments too and Ariel Sibanda did well to parry away a fierce long range drive from Wisdom Mutasa.

Rahman Kutsanzira then put the home side ahead with a scorching effort from the edge of the box after being set up by Allan Gahadzikwa from the corner flag.

As half-time approached though, all hell broke loose and the fate of the blockbuster encounter will now have to be decided in the boardrooms rather than on the pitch.

Left-back Qadr Amin fired Ngezi Platinum back to the summit of the log standings with a first-half penalty conversion as the Mhondoro miners defeated struggling Harare City 1-0.

City put a more battling display against the top flight upstarts but could not find the equaliser despite a spirited second-half fight-back.

Ngezi now enjoy a one point lead over second-placed ZPC Kariba after matchday 8 in the Zimbabwe Premier League.
