Hirving Lozano, Alex Morgan win CONCACAF player of the year awards

Mexico and the United States split the CONCACAF awards for best player of 2018, with El Tri winger Hirving Lozano named male player of the year and the U.S. striker Alex Morgan taking the female prize.

Lozano, at 23, becomes the youngest ever winner of the award on the men's side after consistent form for Dutch side PSV Eindhoven and a famous goal to help Mexico to a 1-0 win over Germany at the World Cup.

Ghana coach Appiah goes on UK scouting mission

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah is considering Huddesfield Town striker Collin Quaner for Black Stars duty after meeting with the player in England.

Appiah met up with the Germany-born forward during a tour of Ghanaian players to the UK recently, to scope out the chances of a nationality switch.

Martin O'Neill signs new Republic of Ireland contract until Euro 2020

Martin O'Neill became Republic of Ireland manager in 2013.

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill has signed a contract extension until 2020, alongside his backroom staff.

O'Neill, 65, and assistant Roy Keane signed new contracts until the end of the 2018 World Cup in 2016, but the manager and his staff have pen to paper on extended deals.

Dwight Yorke returned to the squad for the 2006 World Cup and is seen in action against England.

Former Trinidad and Tobago coach Rene Simoes has told ESPN Brasil that he excluded Dwight Yorke and Russell Latapy from his squad in 2001 because the pair drank heavily the evening before a training session.

Simoes caused a shock when he announced that Yorke, then at Manchester United, and Latapy, at Scottish club Hibernian, had been axed from his squad in June that year.

Peru federation 'calm' over potential risk of World Cup expulsion

Peru Football Federation (FPF) president Edwin Oviedo has said there is no danger of the national team losing their World Cup spot.

Oviedo's reassurance comes after newspaper Libero reported that Peru's place could be in jeopardy following a bill presented by congresswoman Paloma Noceda that would see the FPF lose its autonomy.

Libero said Noceda's proposal would see the Institute of Sport control the federation, but any government intervention could see Peru excluded by FIFA.
