Man United's Paul Pogba told he 'must do better' by Didier Deschamps

France head coach Didier Deschamps criticised the performance of midfielder Paul Pogba after their 4-1 World Cup qualifying win over Bulgaria on Friday.

Earlier this week, Deschamps had defended the player, who has made an unconvincing start to the season for Manchester United, saying that expectations surrounding him were too high - - but he changed his tune after the Bulgaria tie.

"I don't like evaluating one player individually," Deschamps told reporters after the game. "[Pogba] alternated between good things and less good things.

"Paul can and must do better. He knows that."

Similar to his position for United, Pogba was playing a deeper midfield role in a 4-2-3-1, partnered alongside Blaise Matuidi.

The France head coach added: "He did not play in a position that highlights him. In this position, his role is more about the construction of the game. He has everything to do it."

France teammate Antoine Griezmann told L'Equipe after the game that Pogba needs affection, highlighting that the midfielder plays a different role for United and France -- compared to how he played at Juventus, where he was often taking up more advanced positions.
