Italy's Daniele De Rossi forgives Buffon blunder: Even the best make mistakes

Daniele De Rossi has forgiven Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon for his howler in the Azzurri's 1-1 draw with Spain, reminding reporters even the best players can make mistakes.

Spain went ahead on the day thanks to a rare Buffon blunder on 55 minutes. The legendary keeper charged out of his goal to meet a Sergio Busquets through ball only to completely miss his kick and allow Spain forward Vitolo to roll the ball into the vacant net.

De Rossi equalised from the spot in the 82nd minute to secure the point for Giampiero Ventura's side. And the Roma midfielder discussed the difficult match afterward.

"It was tough, above all the first half. Spain always control the ball, but in the first half we were too deep and allowed them too much possession. We were too weak in the tackle and then kept giving it back," the Roma midfielder told Rai Sport.

"The first half was bad. The second was better and we had a strong comeback, which is in our DNA. The draw isn't the best result, but I think the group that did well in Euro 2016 is still going strong.

"When you concede, it's normal that the attitude has to change. Before the goal we were too timid and weren't pushing hard enough.

"Spain are stronger in possession, but there are many different games to go, starting from the trip to Skopje. Many teams in our position would've lost, but we drew and at the end risked a winner. We got that intensity back.

"The best goalkeeper in history can make mistakes too, otherwise he'd be a machine. I'd have preferred he made a mistake for Juventus rather than Italy, but you can't have everything!"
