Tanzania advance to second round of WC qualifying despite Malawi loss

Tanzania booked their place in the second round of CAF 2018 World Cup qualifying despite losing Sunday's first-round second-leg clash 1-0 against Malawi.

John Banda scored the only goal of the game just before half-time for Malawi, but with Tanzania having won Wednesday's first leg 2-0 they went through with a 2-1 aggregate victory.

Ethiopia recorded a 3-0 second-leg win over Sao Tome e Principe to advance to the second round of qualifying, winning 3-1 on aggregate.

Sao Tome e Principe had won the first leg 1-0, but goals on Sunday from Dawit Fekadu, Panom and Lok meant it was Ethiopia who kept their World Cup hopes alive.

Kenya's 0-0 draw against Mauritius was enough for them to book their place in the second round as they ran out 5-2 winners on aggregate.

Neither side were able to find the back of the net in Nairobi on Sunday, but Kenya's hard work in the first leg in Mauritius on Wednesday proved to be enough for them to progress.
