Madagascar record WC qualifying win over Central African Republic

Madagascar kicked off their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign with a 3-0 first-round first-leg victory over Central African Republic on Saturday.

Michael Rabeson opened the scoring for the visitors in the 27th minute, with Njiva Rakotoharimalala doubling their lead 12 minutes later.

Johann Paul made sure of the result with a strike midway through the second half, putting Madagascar in a good position to reach the second round ahead of Tuesday's second leg.

Botswana recorded a 2-0 win in Eritrea in their first-round first-leg clash.

Galabgwe Moyana edged the visitors ahead in the 22nd minute, before Joel Mogorosi added a second after the break.

Botswana will hope to get the job done when they host Eritrea in the second leg on Tuesday.

Chad got their campaign off to a successful start with a 1-0 first-round first-leg victory at home to Sierra Leone.

Leger Djimrangar scored the only goal of the game, coming off the bench to net in the 47th minute.

Sierra Leone will hope home advantage helps them out in Tuesday's return leg.
