Morocco federation rejects ban for failing to host African Nations Cup

RABAT, Morocco -- Morocco has rejected sanctions by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for withdrawing from hosting the African Cup of Nations, calling them harmful to the sport and against the rules.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) pulled out two months before the tournament's start in January, citing health risks from fans traveling from Ebola-affected regions in West Africa. Egypt among 4 candidates to host 2017 African Nations Cup

Egypt head coach Shawky Gharib says his team are ready to qualify for the 2015 African Cup of Nations ahead of their qualifier against Senegal.
It has been confirmed that Morocco will not host the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations and the team have been expelled from tournament to boot.

CAIRO -- The Confederation of African Football said Egypt is among four candidates to host the 2017 African Nations Cup.

CAF says Algeria, Gabon and Ghana are also being considered, while bids from Kenya, Sudan and Zimbabwe were ruled out for not meeting "set criteria."

The African football body is looking for a replacement host for Libya, which withdrew over security and organisational concerns. CAF will decide on the new host next year.

Equatorial Guinea has been confirmed as the new host country for the 2015 African Nations Cup, replacing Morocco.

The African Football Confederation (CAF) confirmed the news on Friday, saying that Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo had agreed after a meeting with CAF president Issa Hayatou.

CAF said the dates for the tournament will remain Jan. 17-Feb. 8 after Morocco was dumped as host for demanding a postponement over Ebola fears.

Second South Africa player suffers robbery after Senzo Meyiwa death

Thousands of mourners attended the funeral of Senzo Meyiwa, South Africa's national football team captain who was shot dead last week.
Seven countries have been approached to see if they would be willing to step in to host if necessary.

A second South African international footballer has been targeted in an armed robbery after the parents of midfielder Sibusiso Vilakazi were held up while he slept slept in a neighbouring property, Reuters reports.

The close call comes days after goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was shot dead in a botched robbery at the home of his girlfriend on Oct. 26.

Vilakazi was a roommate of Meyiwa in recent national team camps and claims the robbers asked for him specifically, but his parents would not disclose...

JOHANNESBURG -- South Africa is reluctant to step in as a last-minute host for next year's African Nations Cup, citing fears over Ebola and the unplanned cost of holding the event.
