Manuel Pellegrini in line for West Ham United manager's job - sources

Former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is frontrunner for the vacant manager's job at West Ham United, sources close to the London club have told ESPN FC.

West Ham are looking for a new manager after deciding not to extend David Moyes' short-term contract, which expired at the end of the season.

Moyes took over from Slaven Bilic in November but was not retained despite leading the Hammers to Premier League survival.

Paulo Fonseca held talks earlier this week but has now signed a new deal at Shakhtar Donetsk.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez was also under consideration but it appears Pellegrini is the preferred candidate.

Pellegrini is currently managing Chinese Super League side Hebei China Fortune but is keen to return to Europe.

The 64-year-old led Manchester City to a Premier League title and won the League Cup twice during his time at the Etihad.

West Ham hope they could confirm their new manager as early as next week.
