West Ham's London Stadium 'not a football ground' - Billy Bonds

West Ham United legend Billy Bonds believes the club's London Stadium is "not a football ground" but says fans will have to get used to it.

The Hammers' new stadium, which was built for the 2012 Olympic Games, has come in for criticism with fans fighting among themselves and stewarding being called into question, while some supporters have expressed regret at leaving their old Upton Park home.

"Personally speaking, I don't think it's a football ground. I can honestly say that," Bonds was quoted as saying by KUMB.

"It seems strange... It's like an island out in the middle. [West Ham manager] Slaven [Bilic] has to walk 20-odd yards to get to the edge of pitch and when you're sitting up high you can see a big trench where they've moved the seats...

"It just feels strange to me. Arsenal built a new stadium but they're two yards away from the playing surface."

But while Bonds, who played for and managed West Ham, is not the biggest fan of the London Stadium, he feels there is no point complaining as it is going to be the club's home for the foreseeable future.

"It doesn't matter that it's not a football ground because we're going to be there for a long, long time," he added. "It's still our home.

"We don't own the place and there are a lot of problems with that going on as we all know, but it's still where our team are going to play and if you're a West Ham supporter then you're going to embrace it.

"There's plenty of noise there. I'm not saying the fans weren't making noise -- there was loads of noise there. It just lacks that little bit of atmosphere of a football ground I think. But I'll get used to it and we'll get used to it."

West Ham return to action at the London Stadium on Wednesday night when they face Accrington Stanley in the third round of the EFL Cup.
