West Ham keen to sign Spurs' Emmanuel Adebayor on loan - sources

West Ham have rekindled their interest in out-of-favour Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor, sources have told ESPN FC.

Adebayor, 31, does not figure in Mauricio Pochettino's long-term plans at White Hart Lane and has not been given a squad number at Tottenham, with the club keen to get him off the wage bill so they can strengthen the squad elsewhere.

The Togo international was close to joining former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood at Aston Villa earlier this summer, but the deal fell through over the player's reluctance to leave his London base.

West Ham are in desperate need of a striker with Enner Valencia, Andy Carroll and Mauro Zarate all currently on the sidelines, while the club sold forward Modibo Maiga to Al Nassr FC on Monday.

The Hammers have held a long-term interest in Adebayor and came close to landing the former Arsenal and Manchester City man on deadline day in January, only for the move to be blocked by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Tottenham are ready to finance some of Adebayor's wages for a loan move, and Upton Park is the striker's preferred choice as he would not have to leave London.
