West Brom captain Darren Fletcher refused to entertain talk of a relegation scrap despite the Baggies' declining form.
Albion have won just five of their last 19 games in all competitions after beating Peterborough on penalties in their FA Cup fourth round replay on Wednesday.
The Baggies won 4-3 in the shoot-out, to set up a fifth round trip to Reading, after Fletcher cancelled out Jon Taylor's goal to ensure the game finished 1-1 after extra time.
It was welcome relief for Albion, who have won just three of their last 15 games in the Premier League to sit six points above the drop zone -- but Fletcher insisted they would not look down ahead of Saturday's trip to Everton.
"You can look at it both ways. We're only four or five points from pushing for seventh or eighth," he said.
"At the same time, we're the same distance from the bottom three.
"We've got to stay positive, keep that level head and go again for a massive game at the weekend.
"It's a big factor in any team and we've got that in abundance. That's coming through now and we'll stick together.
"There are plenty more games to go and we're in a position where you look to the bottom but we're so many points from teams above us as well."
The 32-year-old missed his own spot kick in the shoot-out but Ben Foster saved Lee Angol's and Martin Samuelsen's penalties.
After being given a scare by the League One side Fletcher admitted they did not want to disrespect their hosts and celebrations were muted.
"We didn't want to milk it. These lads have put in a massive performance and we wanted to show respect to that," he said.
"I think everyone was knackered as well. We're doing it the hard way in the FA Cup."
