Salomon Rondon's late goal masked West Brom's poor finishing - Kemp

Assistant manager David Kemp felt West Brom were fortunate not to be left counting the cost of some poor finishing before Salomon Rondon's late goal rescued a point against Swansea.

A combination of wayward attempts, with captain Darren Fletcher the main culprit, and some fine goalkeeping from Lukasz Fabianski looked like condemning Albion to a home defeat -- a loss that would have seen Swansea move above them in the Premier League table.

The Welsh side led through Gylfi Sigurdsson's 64th-minute strike and were on their way to a third win since Francesco Guidolin's appointment.

But Fabianski, who had been in decent form on the night, was finally beaten in the second minute of time added on when Rondon blasted the ball home from close range after a scramble inside the six-yard box, and it finished 1-1.

It was harsh on Fabianski, who had produced good saves to deny Fletcher and Stephane Sessegnon, most notably.

Kemp said: "It's an important goal. Obviously being 1-0 down in injury time and getting a goal, you're grateful for the point.

"I think we played well enough to win it. I think we had something like 18 shots and their keeper has made some really good saves. The finishing probably wasn't of the quality we'd like but we kept going and showed good character and we've got to be pleased with that.

"He [Fletcher] had a couple of great chances with headers but they were more like defensive headers, rather than attacking headers. Two of them were great opportunities and if he'd headed them down and had the chance again he'd probably put them in.

"The finishing wasn't of the quality we'd like but we're making the opportunities and we're pleased to get a point.

"But we need to work on the finishing because we're not getting in front when we should be and then it puts pressure on us."

Guidolin remained upbeat despite the disappointment of conceding late in the game.

It was only a watching brief for the Italian against Watford last month, shortly after his appointment, so Saturday's visit of Crystal Palace will be his first match in charge at the Liberty Stadium and he is looking forward to the prospect.

"It is disappointing, so late, but this is football," said Guidolin.

"But I am optimistic as I saw my team play well. We lose two points but West Brom is a good team, a strong team, and this is a difficult stadium [to come to]. I am optimistic because my team played well for 93 minutes -- all the match.

"Our team is good but the table is not good and we need to improve.

"Football is dangerous and Saturday is another difficult match, the first at home for me and I hope to see my team win."
