West Brom assistant Dave Kemp says Saido Berahino could return for the Baggies against Stoke after his exile.
The striker was dropped again as Albion edged out Port Vale 5-3 on penalties in the Capital One Cup following a forgettable 0-0 draw after extra time at The Hawthorns.
Richard Duffy blazed his penalty over in the shoot-out leaving James Chester to seal Albion's route to the third round and a tie at Norwich.
The Baggies had rejected a second bid from Tottenham for Berahino hours before the game and Kemp admitted they will look at his state of mind before Saturday's trip to the Britannia Stadium.
He said: "That's something we can assess between now and then, we'll see what happens as it unfolds. Once we get to next Tuesday [the transfer deadline] it'll be clearer.
"He was considered tonight but there's other stuff. This transfer window is upsetting not just to Saido but to everyone.
"He's training fine, you can imagine he's a young man and there's a lot going on and your eye might not be on the ball. You have to be totally focused to perform.
"The manager has to make a decision."
Salomon Rondon hit the bar in extra time while Rickie Lambert saw a header cleared off the line and a drive clip the woodwork.
The Baggies laboured to victory with defeat harsh on Vale, who came closest when Louis Dodds dragged wide in the second half.
The League One side pushed Albion close but lacked the quality to seriously threaten Boaz Myhill.
"We're in the next round and that's the goal," added Kemp. "Because the Premier League is so high profile, teams are expected to breeze past lower division sides and it's not always the case. They played very well."
Chris Brunt limped out in the first half but Kemp is hopeful the midfielder will return soon.
He added: "Hopefully it's not too serious, his hamstring tightened, it wasn't pulled or anything and we'll keep our fingers crossed."
