Pulis explains Saido Berahino absence against Chelsea amid Spurs interest

Tony Pulis has said Saido Berahino was left out of West Brom's 3-2 loss to Chelsea because the striker is unsettled by Tottenham's interest in the striker.

West Brom rejected Tottenham's offer for Berahino this week and said they have no plans to sell, although the player is keen to join Spurs, according to ESPN FC sources.

The transfer window does not close until Sept. 1, something which frustrates Pulis as he feels the speculation regarding Berahino's future is disrupting West Brom's start to the campaign.

Pulis told the BBC: "I had a chat with him yesterday and it's very unsettling. He's a great lad but he is a young lad. I just cannot believe we are talking about something that is not even going to happen today affecting the kid.

"We should all be talking about the football. The transfer window should close and the season should start and everybody should be talking about football and not other things.

"We have been working hard to try and bring players in but this all could have finished three weeks ago."

James Morrison scored a brace for West Brom on Sunday but Chelsea, who had John Terry sent off, secured their first win of the season thanks to goals from Pedro Rodriguez, Diego Costa and Cesar Azpilicueta.
