U.S. national team assistant coach Andreas Herzog is interested in returning to the Bundesliga to take over his former club Werder Bremen. "Everyone knows that Werder Bremen is still my club and is still near and dear to me," Herzog told Sport1, and when asked by Kreiszeitung about a possible return to Bremen as a coach he said that "everyone would like to do it." The former Austria international added: "Werder Bremen are very interesting, but I don't want to put my name forward." Herzog, who spent eight largely successful years at Bremen in the 1990s and early noughties, took over his role with United States in 2011 and is also head coach of the under-23 side. On Sunday, the Bundesliga strugglers released coach Viktor Skripnik from his duties following four defeats from their first four competitive matches in the 2016-17 season, and are now looking for a replacement. According to Sport 1 and Kreiszeitung, Herzog would be allowed to leave U.S. Soccer should he receive an offer from Bundesliga.
