Viktor Skripnik gets Werder Bremen vote of confidence

Werder Bremen's director of sport Thomas Eichin has given coach Viktor Skripnik a vote of confidence, but has also told the Ukrainian he needs to keep his nerve.

Bremen slid into the bottom three of the Bundesliga at the weekend following their fifth straight defeat.

Saturday's 1-0 loss at home to record-breaking leaders Bayern Munich saw Skripnik lose his temper and doubt his own future at the club.

"All you keep saying is how poor we are and so on -- well, my daughter can see that too," he ranted at reporters.

"Every grandma and granddad in the stadium can see that we are poor, and we go to Mainz and then Dortmund come here, maybe even without me being here anymore. That's the reality."

Skripnik's outburst was unnecessary, according to Eichin, who had given him a guarantee that he would still be in charge of Bremen even if they had lost 12-0 to Bayern.

He is continuing to back the former Ukraine international too, albeit with one or two stipulations.

"I'm going to talk to Viktor about the situation," Eichin told kicker magazine. "We've got to hold our nerve in times like this and try to get on top of things together, and that also goes for how to deal with the media.

"Viktor must not put himself under so much pressure. He continues to enjoy the total backing of the club.

"All of us at Werder want a future with our current coaching team."

Bremen, who find themselves just two points off the foot of the table, face Mainz next weekend.
