Werder Bremen forward Davie Selke was unable to ignore the jeers aimed at him by his own club's supporters at the weekend, but insists he is strong enough to cope.
Selke was given a bad reception by a section of Bremen's fans during Saturday's 0-0 draw with Mainz, coming only days after it was announced he would be joining RB Leipzig in the summer.
The 20-year-old was removed in the second half having failed to make any sort of impact on the game and he said it was difficult to perform in such conditions.
"Of course the whistles didn't just go in one ear and out of the other," he told Sport Bild magazine. "I've seen how much the Werder fans can support this club and then you hear these whistles, but I'm mentally strong and can deal with the situation well."
Selke has just seven games left for Bremen before moving to ambitious second-division side Leipzig.
Even though it looks likely he will be playing in the 2. Bundesliga next season, with Leipzig unlikely to be promoted, he still believes he is taking a step up in his career.
"Leipzig have big objectives," he said. "Not only do they want to be promoted to the Bundesliga but they also want to establish themselves in the top half of the table in the near future. I want to be part of this project."
