Watford boss Walter Mazzarri: Liverpool the best we've faced

LIVERPOOL -- Walter Mazzarri believes Liverpool are the best side his Watford have faced in the Premier League so far this season following the 6-1 drubbing at Anfield on Sunday.

The Hornets went into half-time 3-0 down after goals from Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Emre Can put the hosts well on their way to the top of the Premier League.

Watford's misery continued with Roberto Firmino, Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum adding to the scoreline in the second half, with Daryl Janmaat scoring a consolation goal to make it 5-1.

The Italian's team have already faced the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United this campaign but believes Jurgen Klopp's assortment of players were the most difficult to contend with.

"First of all, congratulations to Liverpool because I am very, very impressed," Mazzarri told a news conference. "Not only tactically but even on the running and the pressing. They are a really great team.

"From the teams that we have played against, there is no doubt that it is the team I am most impressed with.

"If they continue like this, then they are No. 1 in my list for winning the Premier League. Of course this is only from the teams that we have played against."

On his side's performance, Mazzarri added: "Unfortunately it can happen that in one day you have some of your players are not in the top form and this happened when we played Burnley.

"This is something we have to reflect and it will help us in the future. When you have your players not on top form, especially against a team like Liverpool, then this can happen.

"After the international break I will sit down with the players and with my experience I will tell them what we need to do.

"In my opinion, against a team like Liverpool in their home you can lose, but I am not happy at all to lose in this way. We have to work tactically but also psychologically to play against a team like this for this to not happen again."

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes limped off injured after Coutinho's goal in the 31st minute and had to be replaced by Costel Pantilimon.

Mazzarri said he was unsure about the fitness of his Brazilian stopper and will know more about the injury in the coming days.

"He had a big knock on the knee," the 55-year-old said. "But we need to check in the next days if the knee twisted or not. We will know in the next days."
