Watford ask Harry Kewell to coach under-21 squad - sources

Former Liverpool and Leeds star Harry Kewell has been offered the role of Watford under-21s manager, sources have told ESPN FC.

Watford have been in talks with Kewell about joining the club's coaching set-up and the Australian is set to accept the offer of managing the club's under-21s.

Kewell, 36, retired last summer after finishing his career in his native Australia with A-League side Melbourne Heart and he has been working through his coaching badges whilst setting up a youth academy in his home country.

Liverpool have also been linked with a move to bring the former Anfield man back to the club in a coaching capacity, but it appears Kewell will take his first steps into management at Watford.

Watford owner Gino Pozzo sees Kewell as someone with huge coaching potential and he will also be involved in Quique Sanchez Flores' first-team coaching set-up.

Kewell boasts a wealth of Premier League experience having come through the ranks at Leeds and making over 200 appearances for the club before spending five years at Liverpool between 2003-2008.
