West Ham's James Collins replaced by Joe Walsh in Wales squad

West Ham defender James Collins has withdrawn from the Wales squad preparing for Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Serbia in Cardiff.

The Football Association of Wales tweeted that Collins had been replaced by MK Dons' Joe Walsh.

There was no immediate explanation about the reason for 33-year-old Collins' withdrawal.

He is the second Wales casualty this week, with fellow defender Ben Davies having been ruled out of the Serbia clash because of injury.

Davies, who has started all three of Wales' 2018 World Cup qualifying games, suffered an ankle injury during Tottenham's Champions League defeat against Bayer Leverkusen last week.

Former Wales under-21 international Walsh, 24, was selected for Euro 2016 qualifying matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Cyprus earlier this year.

Wales currently lie third in their World Cup qualifying group after collecting five points from three games.

They are two points behind leaders Serbia, with only the pool winners guaranteed a qualifying place.
