Wales manager Chris Coleman: 2018 World Cup bid will be 'last hit'

Wales coach Chris Coleman has said the 2018 World Cup campaign will be his last in the job.

Coleman guided Wales to the Euro 2016 semifinals, where they were beaten 2-0 by Portugal, and he and his players were welcomed back to Cardiff by an estimated 200,000 people on Friday.

Coleman praised his players and the supporters for taking Wales to new heights, with his side having surpassed the 1958 team that reached the World Cup quarterfinals.

And the Wales manager rapidly turned his attention to the 2018 World Cup campaign -- in which they face Austria, Serbia, Republic of Ireland, Moldova and Georgia -- saying that would be his "last hit at it."

"We know if we give our nation something to be proud of, this is the end result," he said. "But we are in the middle of something, not the end.

"We need that little bit of luck, the same hunger and desire and good things will happen.

"I am sure this will be my last campaign whether we qualify or not.

"That will be six years in the job, which is a long time. This will be my last hit at it, so I will give it my best shot."

The success enjoyed by Coleman's Wales has seen him linked with other jobs, but he said: "I would not consider going anywhere else. I want to see this through.

"There's loads of work to be done with this team, and I'll give everything I've got in the next campaign."
