Watching Gareth Bale in UCL final will cause me panic - Ashley Williams

Wales captain Ashley Williams admits panic will set in watching Gareth Bale in the Champions League final.

Real Madrid forward Bale -- who scored seven of Wales' 11 goals in qualifying for Euro 2016 -- carries the hopes of a nation in France next month.

Before that, however, Bale could win European club football's biggest prize for the second time when Real play city rivals Atletico Madrid in Milan on Saturday night.

It will be a nervous evening for every Welsh supporter, praying that Bale emerges unscathed against rugged opponents, and the Wales squad will be anxiously looking on from their pre-Euros training camp in Portugal.

"I've spoken to the gaffer [Chris Coleman] about this and we had a laugh,'' said Williams.

"I don't know what to do, whether to watch it or not.

"I'm really pleased for Gareth and want him to win, but at the same time I want him to just get through the game.

"I don't want to watch him because every time he goes down I am going to be panicking.''

Asked about his fears of Bale getting injured, Williams said: "Let's not talk about what if he wasn't available.

"We just hope he is there because we know he will do his job as always.''

Bale scored in the 4-1 Champions League final victory over Atletico two years ago when Real were crowned champions of Europe for the 10th time.

The 26-year-old would become the youngest British player to lift the trophy twice should Real triumph at the San Siro, and Coleman says the entire Wales squad are behind their star performer.

"I'd watch the game anyway, even if none of the boys were involved,'' said Coleman.

"But we'll watch it together as a squad.

"We all hope Madrid win it again and if they do it's incredible for Balo.

"A Cardiff boy and he would be a two-time Champions League winner in three years. Absolutely fantastic.''

Bale is set to link up with the Wales squad on Tuesday afternoon after Coleman names his final 23-man squad for France.

"Obviously we hope every thing will be all right and there are no problems,'' said Coleman.

"We have the final to look at and there's always a 'you never know.'

"But hopefully he comes through that and he will join up with us.''
