Gareth Bale not in Wales' pre-Euro 2016 squad due to Real's UCL final

Wales manager Chris Coleman has named his 29-man training squad ahead of Euro 2016, leaving out Real Madrid's Gareth Bale due to his participation in the Champions League final.

Bale, 26, is set to be Wales' key player at this summer's tournament in France, where his nation faces England, Russia and Slovakia in Group B.

But the forward has not been included in their squad for the training camp in Portugal on May 24-29 as he is set to play for Real against Atletico Madrid at the San Siro on May 28.

Coleman will name his final 23-man squad on May 31 before they take on Sweden in Stockholm on June 5 in an international friendly prior to the tournament.

Several members of the Wales squad have picked up injuries in recent weeks, with Bale handing Coleman a scare when he suffered a knee injury in Real's Champions League victory over Manchester City last week.

Bale sat out Real's 3-2 La Liga victory over Valencia on Sunday, but the Spanish giants expect the 26-year-old to be fit for their European showdown against Atletico.

Joe Ledley limped off in Crystal Palace's 2-1 victory over Stoke on Saturday and it is reported by the Press Association that he has had a scan on a sore Achilles.

But Palace manager Alan Pardew said after Palace's win that he did not think it was serious and that he expects the midfielder to be fit for the Eagles' FA Cup final date with Manchester United on May 21.

David Vaughan and Adam Matthews have both missed games with hamstring problems recently, while Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward has had a knee injury.

The trio, however, have all been passed fit for Wales' five-day training camp at the Vale do Lobo resort on the Algarve.

Wales squad: Hennessey (Crystal Palace), Ward (Liverpool), Fon Williams (Inverness), A Williams (Swansea), Davies (Tottenham), Collins (West Ham), Chester (West Brom), Taylor (Swansea), Gunter (Reading), Richards (Fulham), Dummett (Newcastle), Matthews (Sunderland), Henley (Blackburn), Ramsey (Arsenal), Ledley (Crystal Palace), Allen (Liverpool), J Williams (Crystal Palace), Edwards (Wolves), King (Leicester), Vaughan (Nottingham Forest), Huws (Wigan), Robson Kanu (Reading), Vokes (Burnley), Church (MK Dons), Cotterill (Birmingham), G Williams (Fulham), Bradshaw (Walsall), Lawrence (Leicester), Burns (Bristol City).
