Villarreal ready to 'suffer' at Liverpool in Europa League - Mateo Musacchio

Villarreal centre-back Mateo Musacchio says his team will have to suffer in Thursday's Europa League semifinal second leg at Liverpool, but he says they have the know-how to survive and make the final.

The Liga outfit make the trip to Merseyside holding a 1-0 lead from last week's first leg in Villarreal, when a tight game was decided by Adrian Lopez's late strike.

Liverpool have a history of great European comebacks at Anfield, but Marcelino Garcia Toral's team, famed their organisation, held a similar advantage going to Napoli's imposing Stadio San Paolo earlier in the competition and drew 1-1 to progress comfortably.

Argentina international Musacchio said in AS that he knew it was not going to be easy against Jurgen Klopp's men, and their supporters, but he and his teammates were looking forward confidently towards the challenge of making their club's first ever European final.

"All games are very important," Musacchio said. "To reach here we have had to beat many teams, and I try and be relaxed about it, even though we know that it is special.

"Against Napoli we had the same result from the first leg and we suffered but came through in the return. We had to suffer, and at Anfield it will be the same.

"You will have to suffer before you can celebrate, but our motivation is total. It is something very nice -- we are fully focused on this game and we want it to start already."

Villarreal would not look to just sit back and defend their lead, Musacchio said, as an away goal would be so useful to them.

"We are going there to win," he said. "Scoring a goal would help us a lot. That is our idea -- as in all games. We always play positively, although obviously we will also have to defend."

Marcelino's side travel knowing they have secured a place in the Champions League playoff for next season, after winning 2-0 at Valencia on Sunday to tie up fourth place in La Liga with two games remaining.

"That was a very important game and to win it gives us a lot of security and a lot of confidence," Musacchio said. "This club is in one of the best moments in its history."
