Marc Wilmots dismisses speculation linking him with Wolfsburg job

Former Belgium boss Marc Wilmots has dismissed speculation linking him with the head coach's job at Wolfsburg.

Wilmots has been touted as a potential permanent replacement for Dieter Hecking, who left the Wolves on Monday.

Valerien Ismael has been placed in caretaker charge for the club's next two games.

"I have not had any talks with Wolfsburg," Wilmots told kicker. "These are just inventions made by the media which I would not like to comment on."

Wilmots has experience of coaching in the Bundesliga, leading Schalke on a temporary basis in 2003, and said he would be open for a return to Germany, where he also spent six years of his playing career.

"The Bundesliga is one of the best leagues in Europe," he said. "Germany is always an option for me."

Wolfsburg director of sport Klaus Allofs has not ruled out Ismael getting the Wolfsburg job on a permanent basis, if he can impress in the two games he has been put in charge for -- away to Darmstadt on Saturday and at home to Bayer Leverkusen a week later.

"I do not see him as an emergency measure," Allofs said at the former French defender's presentation earlier this week. "We're in good hands with him and I have faith in him. He is our head coach.

"He is certainly going to establish himself in one top league in Europe or another and now he has a chance to show that here at Wolfsburg."
