Wolfsburg CEO Klaus Allofs has ruled the club's signing of former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner a failed experiment following the Denmark international's exit earlier this week. The former Arsenal striker, who had a year left on his current deal, was released from his contract on Monday, and had already been excluded from training after the club said they felt he posed a "threat" to team spirit. Bendtner, 28, moved on a free transfer to the German club in the summer of 2014 and was involved in a number of controversies with Wolfsburg, including being fined for posting a picture showing him getting into a Mercedes car -- a German car manufacturing rival of Volkswagen, Wolfsburg's owners -- on Instagram, and also for arriving 50 minutes late for a training session. In an interview with Kicker, Allofs said the club was ready to cut their losses with the once-promising Bendtner. "Signing Bendtner was an experiment and it was not a successful one," Allofs said. "Bendtner was a gamble worth taking. He was an extraordinary talent. We were envious of Arsenal when Nicklas was still a young player. "But talent alone is not enough. Nicklas is a divisive figure, he is hurting his own career. "Of course, we are upset and disappointed that he was unable to fulfil his potential at Wolfsburg."
