Wolfsburg's Bas Dost injures foot after Dante tackle in training

Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost has been ruled out for a minimum of six weeks as a result of a challenge by teammate Dante, the club has confirmed.

Dost, 26, has suffered a foot fracture and left Wolfsburg's training camp in Portugal on Wednesday.

Wolfsburg CEO Klaus Allofs criticised Dante for the tackle, telling kicker: "That was stupid."

In a statement on the club's official website, he added: "Right now, we assume that Bas needs surgery."

The club said that Dost could return to training "not less than six weeks after the likely surgery."

Examinations had shown that Dost has fractured his left middle foot. He is to undergo further examinations in Wolfsburg, the club said on their official website.

Bild reported earlier this month that Dost, who has scored seven Bundesliga goals this season, was considering leaving the Volkswagen Arena after not starting in the final four matches of 2015.

Wolfsburg boss Dieter Hecking has recently preferred summer signing Max Kruse to both Dost and Nicklas Bendtner, who has also been strongly linked with an exit after saying he was unhappy with his situation.

Kicker reported on Wednesday that the Dane remains determined to leave Die Wolfe sooner rather than later, but Allofs said: "I have received no offers, we don't want to sell any player, and Nicklas does not have the desire to leave us."
