Nicklas Bendtner could leave Wolfsburg due to lack of playing time

Nicklas Bendtner has hinted that his "rollercoaster ride" at Wolfsburg might come to an end when the transfer widow opens in January.

Bendtner was on target for Wolfsburg in their 2-1 victory against Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend. That was only his ninth goal in 41 appearances for the Wolves since joining as a free agent in the summer of 2014.

However, he has mostly been used as a substitute, and the goal against Leverkusen was his first when named in the starting XI -- one of only nine times that coach Dieter Hecking has picked him.

In the five matches leading up to his start against Leverkusen, Bendtner failed to even make the squad three times, was an unused substitute and came off the bench late at Borussia Monchengladbach.

According to kicker, prior to handing Bendtner a start against Leverkusen, Hecking had criticised the Dane in the changing room in front of the entire squad for his mentality and attitude, and later took him aside for a private conversation.

"My time at Wolfsburg is like a rollercoaster ride," Bendtner said. "I always want to play, as I have said a million times. The best way is to score like I did and contribute to the success."

With the key word "play" in mind, the Dane added: "Should the situation be not like today, you have to talk."

Wolfsburg sporting executive Klaus Allofs, however, said that the club won't "open the door" for a transfer and added that he would rather prefer to see players "commit" to the club, just like they committed to their players.

Wolfsburg take on PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Tuesday, and Bendtner is likely to return to the bench to make way for Bas Dost.

"Bas is fired up, he wants to show that he's a good forward," Hecking told reporters at this prematch news conference. "That's if he plays."
