Nicklas Bendtner enjoys 'best game' for Wolfsburg vs. Bayern Munich

Nicklas Bendtner says he was delighted after helping Wolfsburg win the German Super Cup with a penalty shootout win over Bayern Munich, but praised the win as a "team effort."

Bendtner, 27, came off the bench to replace Bas Dost for the final 20 minutes with Wolfsburg down 1-0 against Bayern on Saturday. But the Denmark striker grabbed a late equaliser when he slotted home a Kevin De Bruyne cross two minutes before the final whistle and then beat Manuel Neuer from the spot to seal the triumph.

"It was maybe my best game here. I am delighted about my goal and the penalty, but it was a team effort," Bendtner told reporters after the match. "Every player believed in it for 90 minutes."

The striker joined Wolfsburg as a free agent last summer, but failed to make an immediate impact at the Volkswagen Arena. He scored one goal in Bundesliga and added four in Europa League, but was mainly used from the bench as he could not get past in-form Netherlands international Dost.

The Dane, however, refused to comment on his future and said: "I have many goals, but I can't talk about it."

During Wolfsburg's recent training camp Bendtner was told to train alone by coach Dieter Hecking, but the controversial former Arsenal forward appears to be listening to his advice.

"He trained well, and confirmed my approach: You train well, you play well," Hecking told kicker. "For now, he has understood. Now it is about sustainability."

Wolves sporting executive Klaus Allofs said that the club had talked to Bendtner on Friday and "told him which reaction we expect from him." Adding: "You have seen that he is capable of it."

Left-back Ricardo Rodriguez also praised his teammate, saying: "He did not have an easy week, we have all seen it. That's why I am just delighted for Nicklas. He has deserved it."
