Wolfsburg's Nicklas Bendtner hits back at critics

Wolfsburg striker Nicklas Bendtner has hit out at his critics, writing on Instagram: "This tiger will fight till the end."

Bendtner, 27, joined Wolfsburg on a free transfer last summer, but the former Arsenal striker has so far failed to impress for the Bundesliga club.

He has made a total of 27 appearances in all competitions, largely as a substitute, and four of his five goals for the club so far have come in the Europa League.

In recent weeks, the Dane has dropped down the pecking order and failed to make the squad for Wolfsburg's last two Bundesliga games at Paderborn and against Borussia Dortmund.

Earlier this week, Wolfsburg sporting executive Klaus Allofs told kicker that the club "are waiting for his breakthrough," but several reports have suggested the Denmark international has no future at the Volkwagen Arena.

Bendtner is under contract at the Volkswagen-Arena until 2017, but it is widely expected that his agent and Wolfsburg will enter talks about an early departure from the Lower Saxony side.

On Monday, German football magazine kicker reported that Bendtner, who officially missed the Dortmund match with a cold, was seen in a restaurant at the time of the match and that, the following day, he was the only player failing to show up when the Wolfsburg squad paid the 23 regional fan clubs a visit.

However, he hit back on his Instagram account, writing: "I would NEVER disappoint the fans. I am happy to drive around to anyone who would have me. Unfortunately I was sick."

He said that he is a Wolfsburg player and that "it's been amazing to be a part of" the club's great season.

He added: "Anyone who wants to write s--- about me, and try to put me down, go ahead. This tiger will fight till the end."
