Nicklas Bendtner blasts lack of service after 8-game Wolfsburg goal drought

Wolfsburg attacker Nicklas Bendtner says that he is not to blame for his goal drought after going eight games for his new club without finding the back of the net.

Bendtner, 26, joined Wolfsburg as a free agent in August after his contract at Arsenal was terminated earlier in the summer. The Denmark international hoped to revive his career, which had stalled following his return to the Emirates following a loan stint at Juventus.

While, during his first weeks at the club there had been doubts over his fitness, the striker said in mid-September that he is on the verge of entering the best phase of his career.

"My best time starts now," Bendtner told kicker at that time. However, a few weeks on, the Dane has yet to fully make an impact at his new club.

While making a total of eight appearances for Wolfsburg, three of them as a starter, and five as a substitute in the final 30 minutes, he has yet to find the back of the net or to provide an assist.

On Sunday, Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking opted to rest veteran attacker Ivica Olic, and handed Bendtner his third start in Die Wolfe's 1-0 home win over FC Augsburg.

But as the Lower Saxony side continued their climb up the table through a goal by defender Naldo, the Dane did not connect with his teammates, and later said that they don't provide him with enough balls.

"I want my first goal," Bendtner was quoted by kicker. "But when you don't even get a chance to score it, it's just frustrating.

"You are always disappointed when you are in a good position, but just don't get the ball."

Wolfsburg coach Hecking said: "Nicklas made a great effort. He's fully integrated. He has not played for months and months.

"He needs time to find his rhythm. The next step he has to take is to be dangerous in front of the goal."

Wolfsburg sporting executive Klaus Allofs added: "A goal would do him good."
