Ivan Perisic needs shoulder surgery

WOLFSBURG, Germany -- Wolfsburg forward Ivan Perisic has a broken shoulder and will need surgery that will put him on the long-term injured list with Patrick Ochs and Christian Traesch.

Ochs is out with a knee injury, and Traesch also has a shoulder injury.

Croatia international Perisic, who scored 10 times for Wolfsburg last season, suffered the injury during the Telekom Cup match against Bayern Munich on Sunday, having to be withdrawn after 21 minutes.

Wolfsburg managing director Klaus Allofs says the injuries are regrettable, but the team can cope.

"These injuries are very unfortunate for us. But we have a wide squad with which we have to compensate for these losses now," he told the club's official website.

"The important thing is that the healing process with each individual runs optimally and players can return to the team as quickly as possible."

Wolfsburg will play in the Europa League this season and begin their Bundesliga campaign at defending champions Bayern on August 22.
