Christian Gentner and Daniel Ginczek sign new Stuttgart contracts

Stuttgart captain Christian Gentner and forward Daniel Ginczek have both extended their contracts at the Bundesliga strugglers, only days before their relegation to the 2.Bundesliga could be confirmed.

Stuttgart need to win at Wolfsburg on Saturday and hope that Eintracht Frankfurt beat Werder Bremen to move out of the bottom two.

In the event of a draw at Bremen's Weserstadion, they must beat Wolfsburg by seven goals to climb out of the automatic relegation berth and into a playoff against Nurnberg for a place in the top flight next season.

Ahead of that decisive clash, Gentner and Ginczek have both committed to new contracts which will keep them at the club until 2019 and 2020 respectively.

The Bundesliga club confirmed that both contracts will be valid both in the Bundesliga and the second division.

Gentner, 30, has been a Stuttgart player for nine years, winning the league title in his first spell between 2004 and 2007 before picking up a second Bundesliga title in three seasons at Wolfsburg and then returning to Swabia in 2010.

Ginczek, 25, joined Stuttgart from Nurnberg in 2014 and has scored just three goals in seven games of an injury-ravaged season.
