Stuttgart: Alexander Zorniger stays as boss despite disappointing form

Stuttgart coach Alexander Zorniger has been given a vote of confidence by the club following their nightmare start to the season.

Zorniger, 48, signed a three-year deal with the club in May following the departure of Dutch coach Huub Stevens, who decided to leave at the end of the season after saving them from relegation.

Stuttgart, the 2007 Bundesliga champions, look likely to have another long season ahead of them, sitting bottom of the table with four points from eight matches.

Only a last-minute Timo Werner header in a 2-2 draw at Hoffenheim spared them a seventh league defeat of the season last weekend.

But despite ex-RB Leipzig coach Zorniger's poor return so far, Stuttgart sporting director Robin Dutt has said the club are not thinking of replacing him.

"We are 100 percent confident of our path and we'll keep on going -- with Alexander Zorniger," Dutt told Bild.

"Last season, we didn't win for nine games and still held on to Huub Stevens.

"Four points is, nevertheless, too few, and we don't want to sugar-coat things.

"But there are things that are looking good, just as there are things that need to be developed."
