Stuttgart boss Huub Stevens backed after 4-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen

Stuttgart coach Huub Stevens has been given a vote of confidence in the wake of his side's 4-0 defeat at Bayer Leverkusen on Friday night.

That defeat means the Swabians have picked up just four from a possible 27 points in their last nine matches and the deficit on safety could grow to six points this weekend.

Stevens is still going to be on the bench when Eintracht Frankfurt visit the Mercedes-Benz Arena next Saturday, though.

"We've not taken part in any of the discussions about our coach in recent weeks but have instead always given him our backing, and that is what we will also do in this situation," the club's director of sport, Robin Dutt, told Sky television.

Stevens was equally defiant, saying he liked what he saw for the first third of Friday's BayArena clash.

"If I were to get the feeling that my players no longer believe in me, then I would make this known to the club," he said. "But I am still getting through to the players.

"The first half an hour was the best I have seen from my team. Then we lost the game in the space of five minutes.

"We've got to grasp onto the positives because that's the only way for us."
