Valencia captain Dani Parejo signs new contract

Valencia captain Dani Parejo has extended his contract until 2020.

The 26-year-old former Real Madrid midfielder, who joined Valencia from Getafe in 2011, expressed his delight on the club's official website.

"This is one of the happiest days of my life," he said. "This was what I wanted. Everybody knew this and I was always confident that we would reach an agreement. I have always said that there is no other club at which I could be happier.

"I feel very happy and I identify strongly with Valencianismo. All that remains is to thank the club and the fans for their faith in me."

He added: "We have a great team and we all identify with the Club. The project is more solid every day since [owner] Peter Lim has arrived and, with Nuno as manager and the squad that we have, we can be optimistic about the future."

Valencia chairwoman Lay Hoon Chan said: "Daniel is one of the best players in La Liga and has once again showed his commitment to Valencia CF. He is an excellent player, as all the fans are aware, but he is also a dedicated and responsible person.

"He is the kind of player we want at Valencia CF -- we are very happy. Whilst we are always awaiting the arrival of new players, it is much more important when we renew the contracts of good players we already have in the squad. We are very happy that Daniel had shown this confidence in building this project alongside us."
